I am aware that I've not been very active in the last week or so here on LJ.  My mood regarding the stepson has continued, and at this point I am just waiting for him to call and say he's on his way back to Italy.  Of course, I am going to have to meet him in Dallas to take possession of the car we foolishly co-signed for (come to find out we weren't really co-signing, but the loan is in the hubby's name).  Why did we cosign?  Well, given his past fits, we felt we couldn't even appear to not be in complete support of his most recent "plan."  Oh well, lesson learned, again.  At least my daughter will get a new car out of the deal.  She is still driving the car we gave her for high school graduation in May 2003.

There are a few pictures here, but I don't think there are too many to make it unwieldy for dial up.  If you want to see the  pictures bigger, click once for bigger, or twice for even bigger.

On 5 April, the County Convention was held.  This is the next step after our precinct caucuses (held in February ) toward selecting our next President.  Anyway, it was at the local (which is 30 miles from here) Community College in the basketball pavilion.  See the cute mural.

Anyway, the Convention began with the regular speeches, then a delegate from each contingency got to make a speech.  The guy representing the undecideds seriously tried to get us to consider changing our allegiance from our candidates to being undecided, very strange.  After the speeches, we split up.  Our contingent being the largest, we stayed in the big room.  Everyone who wanted to be a delegate at the next step had to make a little speech.  After the speeches we would vote for the ones which would progress.

My Vote card.
There were hundreds of people there, and I have never really been great at speeches, but I gave it a go.  Most people were extolling Obama's many virtues, which is fine, but I felt maybe someone should be a bit more down to earth.  So my main point was that one of his more simple and brilliant ideas to lower rampant runaway government spending was to cut the ridiculous government subsidies to the oil companies.  I didn't try and be cute or funny, just very succinct and straight to the point, which since we were given a minute, was wise, I thought..  After we were all done, they had us hold up our cards (delegates only) to disburse ballots.   Well, I didn't make the cut.  Next time I'll try and be funny and clever rather than pragmatic.

I have been faithfully photographing all our trees around here for [community profile] scene_again, and it has been really annoying that our trees are most definitely taking their time blossoming.  See how tight the buds on the cherry tree were yesterday.
Very stubborn cherry tree!

The other day when I tromped out there to take my daily pictures, I looked up and saw a little friend in the sky.   That made me feel a bit better.  I also found this nest in the tree, I've no idea what kind of bird has been making free with my cherry tree, it's a bit too high for me to be able to see inside the nest.

Last Sunday was the first time I've participated in the Global Pros Watch, it was great fun knowing I was watching the Lads at the same time as people all over the globe, and what a great episode, Hunter Hunted, to kick it off.  I'll need to check and see what episode I'll be watching tomorrow. Also, if I want to make a review of this Sunday's episode, I need to learn how to do that cross posting thing, does anyone have any pointers?

Yesterday I watched Death in Holy Orders, starring Martin Shaw, and my goodness, he has matured amazingly well, still a very handsome man.

Then after the movie, when I was trying to figure out what to watch next (my arm was hurting enough to make computer activity extremely uncomfortable, it is my right arm which makes me medically retired, and some days it just refuses to play properly).  Anyway, when I got up, I noticed our one-eyed diabetic cat, Jerry, was having one of his more serious spells.
He sometimes becomes very disoriented and stumbles about as if he isn't really sure how to walk properly.  Given my recent mood, I was very distressed to see this, I was so sure this was going to be his last spell, I took a bunch of pictures of him (this picture isn't one of them).  Well, he is much better today, thank goodness, but it really is only a matter of time.  He has always been a very fragile cat, his eye and ear problems have necessitated surgery, and he has been under care for diabetes for over two years.  The fact that he has made it to 15 years old is very impressive.  I hope he'll surprise me and be around for a long, long, time.

Now, I have been taking pictures with my new macro lens like a woman possessed.  For some reason I have been drawn to the moss and lichens on our trees.  Perhaps because of the complete lack of progress with the blossoms on our other trees.  Anyway this is one of my favorite pictures.
